NI Computing Support Charges

Neuroscience Institute Computing Facilities is a 100% recharge center; we charge yearly  fees to recover the costs of providing these services. 

  • Frequency of billing: Quarterly
  • Usage is tracked on a quarterly basis.

Computing Services that incur annual charges:

  1. Cluster Computing and Support measured in total hours of compute time  per lab.  (Accounts are for individual users. Do not share your access with other users):
    • $4,000 per lab for 0 to 100,000 hours
    • $1,000 for each additional 100,000 hours
  2. Computing Support and Raptor Storage (measured in TB of storage space):
    • $4,000 per lab for 0 to 10TB
    • $1,500 for  each additional 15TB
  3. CrashPlan Cloud file backup. ($60/user)
Cluster Access and Support charges cover the following services
  • Access to the NI cluster for lab members.
  • Cluster disk Space for each user and lab. 
    • User home: 300GB/user
    • User data: 1TB/user
    • Lab data: 10TB/lab
  • NI Help Desk support (walk-in, phone calls, email and remote support thru Splashtop software) for the Cluster.
Computing Support and Raptor Storage charges cover the following services

This service is offered to NI/CNBC labs that work in Mellon Institute where IT staff  support everyday technology needs.

  • General Computer Support.
  • File Server (raptor):
    • User account(s)
    • File Server space for file storage and the data is replicated on a server located in a different campus building for data protection
    • Webpage hosting
  • NI Help Desk support (walk-in, phone calls, email and remote support thru Splashtop software). 
  • Crashplan Subscriptions for lab members.
  • Operations monitoring of core services.
CrashPlan Backup to the cloud

This is NOT a full system backup similar to a Apple’s “Time Machine” or Acronis True Image. It is designed to backup user files. Only one instance of the CrashPlan app is installed for all user accounts. Therefore, users on multi-user computers cannot individually backup to their encrypted CrashPlan account.

  • Annual Software license for CMU Computing Services CrashPlan Cloud Service to be used for encrypted incremental desktop document backup to the CrashPlan cloud server(s).
  • Support for the backup and recovery of computer documents.
