NI/CNBC Computing Support Charges

Neuroscience Institute/CNBC Computing Facilities is a 100% recharge center; we charge yearly fees to recover the costs of providing these services.

CNBC Computing Services that incur annual charges:

 

  1. Desktop Support including Code42 CrashPlan Cloud for that user: $2,500 per user
  2. Cluster Access and Support:
    • $5,000 per lab ≤ 3 users
    • $250 per additional user ≥ 4
  3. Trial Cluster Access (one time per a lab) for one year, limited to two users ($2000 per lab)
  4. Code42 CrashPlan Cloud desktop file backup. ($60/user)

**NOTE: Accounts are based on individual users. Do not share your access with other users.

Desktop Support charges cover the following services
  • Desktop Computer Support
  • File Server (raptor):
    • User account
    • File Server space for file storage (within reason).
    • Home-page hosting
  • NI/CNBC Help Desk support (walk-in, phone calls, and email)
  • One (1) Software license for Code42 CrashPlan Cloud for incremental desktop file backup.
  • Operations monitoring of core services.

NOTE: Labs paying for two (2) or more Desktop Support charges will also have access to the CNBC cluster at no additional charge.

Cluster Access and Support charges cover the following services
  • Access to the CNBC cluster for lab members (CNBC is charged a monthly fee for each user. Please maintain accounts only for members in your lab who actively use the cluster: these charges are included in the Cluster access fees).
  • Cluster Disk Space for file storage (within reason).
  • CNBC Help Desk support (walk-in, phone calls, and email) for the Cluster.
  • Limited (<100 GB per account) file server space on raptor for all lab members (web hosting included).
Trial Cluster Access and Support charges cover the following services
  • Access to the CNBC cluster for 2 lab members for 1 year (available to labs that are new to CNBC’s cluster resources – 1 time only).
  • Cluster Disk Space for file storage (within reason).
  • CNBC Help Desk support (walk-in, phone calls, and email) for the Cluster.
Code42 CrashPlan Cloud Incremental desktop file backup support charges cover

This is NOT a full system backup similar to a Apple’s “Time Machine” or Acronis True Image. It is designed to backup user files. Only one instance of the Code42 app is installed for all user accounts. Therefore, users on multi-user computers cannot individually backup to their encrypted Code42 account.

  • Annual Software license for CMU Computing Services Code42 CrashPlan Cloud Service to be used for encrypted incremental desktop document backup to the Code42 cloud server(s). More Info
  • Support for the backup and recovery of computer documents.
