If you encounter any issues with your NI/CNBC printer, please notify the NI Computing Administrator, David, either in person or via email, letting him know that the printer is not functioning. David will do his best to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. However, if your work is time sensitive and you cannot wait for the issue to be resolved, please use an alternative printer until the problem is addressed.

Connecting a Network Printer on Windows 11

Method 1: Using the Printer List

  1. Click the Start button (Windows logo) in the taskbar, and select Settings.

  2. In the Settings window, go to Devices > Printers & scanners.

  3. Under Printers & scanners, click on Add a printer or scanner.

  4. Windows will start searching for available printers. When your printer appears in the list, select it and click Add device.

    • If your printer does not appear, proceed to Method 2 below.

  5. If prompted to install the printer driver, click Install driver.

    • You may need to enter administrator credentials to complete the installation.

  6. Once the installation is complete, click Finish.

  1. In Printers & scanners, select your printer.

  2. Click on Printer properties.

  3. In the General tab, click Print Test Page.

Method 2: Add Printer by IP Address (if the printer does not appear)

  1. In Printers & scanners, click on Add a printer or scanner.

  2. When the search is complete, select The printer that I want isn’t listed.

  3. Choose Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname, then click Next.

  4. In the Hostname or IP address field, enter the printer’s IP address.

    • The Port name will auto-fill once the IP is entered.

  5. In the Device type dropdown, select Autodetect, and click Next.

  6. Windows will attempt to detect the printer and automatically install the necessary driver.

    • If prompted, select the printer’s manufacturer and model.

  7. Assign a printer name, or use the default name. Click Next.

  8. Choose Do not share this printer, then click Next.

  9. Click Print a test page (optional) and then click Finish.

Your printer should now appear in Printers & scanners.

Connecting to a Network Printer on macOS

  1. Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.

  2. Click the lock icon (bottom left) and enter admin credentials if needed.

  3. Click the Add printer (+) icon.

Choose a Printing Protocol:

  • HP Jetdirect – Socket: For many HP and compatible printers.

  • IPP (Internet Printing Protocol): Most modern printers.

  • LPD (Line Printer Daemon): Older printers.

  1. Enter the printer’s IP address in the Address field.

    • Look for “Valid and complete address” to confirm.

  2. macOS will attempt to detect and install the correct driver.

    • If it fails, choose Select Printer Software… and search for your printer model.

    • If unavailable, use Generic PostScript or PCL Laser printer drivers.

  3. Click Add to finish installation.
